Youth Activities
The Parks & Recreation Department offers a wide variety of sports, programs, events, and camps for youth including swim lessons, basketball, indoor soccer, volleyball, taekwondo, Downtown Tot Town, Daddy Daughter Date Night, Mother Son Date Night, Winter Blast, Spring Blast, Summer Blast Day Camps, and more. Activities are held at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 20 West State Street, and indoor swim lessons are held at the Pleasant Hill Pool behind the Central Rivers AEA Building located at 909 S 12th Street, outdoor swim lessons are held at the Marshalltown Family Aquatic Center.

Indoor Soccer (K-8th Grade)
Youth Indoor Soccer is an instructional recreational league for boys and girls in Kindergarten through 8th grade. This program will teach the fundamentals of this sport providing fun for each child with lots of playing time. Registration deadline is Sunday, January 16th, 2022. Late registrations will be accepted until teams are full and/or games begin and must be completed in person or over the phone by contacting the Parks and Recreation office at 641-754-5715.
Youth Volleyball (3rd-6th Grade)
This recreational league for boys and girls in 3rd through 6th grade. This program will teach the fundamentals of this sport providing fun for each child with lots of playing time. Registration deadline is Sunday, January 16th, 2022. Late registrations will be accepted until teams are full and/or games begin and must be completed in person or over the phone by contacting the Parks and Recreation office at 641-754-5715. Volunteer Coaches are needed.
Indoor Swim Lessons
Red Cross guidelines are followed. Indoor evening swim lessons are for anyone from age 2 months old through adult.
Taekwondo
Under the instruction of Master Mike Wickham, we are happy to offer Taekwondo classes! More than just kicking and punching, Taekwondo classes are structured for fun, education, self defense and fitness for anyone at almost any age! No uniform is required - wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. USA Taekwondo guidelines will be used and testing is available to participants through Master Wickham. Follow Taekwondo on its Facebook page to find updates and unforeseen class changes.
Spring Blast Day Camp
Anyone attending Kindergarten through 6th grade needing or wanting something to do during Marshalltown Community School District Spring Break may come spend time with their Spring Blast friends! Numerous activities will be planned and kids may come have fun with us! Children may attend one or each of these scheduled dates while Marshalltown School is not in session.
Daddy Daughter Date Night
A special night for dads, grandfathers, uncles, or an adult male to take a young lady, 16 years of age and younger, out for a night of dancing. Each young lady will receive a flower and a keepsake photo. Snacks, beverages and a DJ will be provided.
Mother Son Date Night
This night is an opportunity for mothers, grandmothers, aunts, or an adult female to have a fun evening of dancing with a special young man, age 16 or younger. This fun evening includes dancing, photos and snacks.
Downtown Tot Town
Tot Town is an indoor playground for children ages 2-5 with climbers, riding toys, balls and running room available. Adults must be present and actively supervise the children they bring.
Outdoor Swim Lessons
Red Cross guidelines are followed. Outdoor swim lessons are for anyone from age 3 through adult.
Summer Blast Day Camp
Summer Blast is lead by experiences staff and available for youth entering grades K through 6. Parents should fill out the required registration form and submit to the Parks and Rec office. Only 125 spots per week. Register early as spots are only reserved with payment for that week.
Camp Marshalltown Day Camp
This camp is uniquely designed for school age kids in the Marshall County area, (ages 5 to 21, if still in high school) who have intellectual and / or developmental disabilities, such as downs syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, OCD, or many others. Camp Marshalltown is held at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Blastball
For boys and girls 4 & 5 years old, Blastball is like t-ball but better because our base honks! Every child will get a chance to learn the fundamentals of throwing, hitting and catching and enjoy playing this fast-paced game. All equipment is provided.
Taekwondo
This tennis program provides every youngster a chance to learn and enjoy tennis while emphasizing sportsmanship. Balls are provided and rackets are available for children to use, if they don't have their own. We can help you place your child in the most appropriate class. If you have any questions, please contact Jenni Hart at 641-754-5715 ext. 3. Minimum age of 5 years old.
Learn the basic techniques, rules and golf etiquette. Class times are spent on skills as well as playing on a real course! Enrollment covers all fees, including the golf course. Session consists of 5 classes. Class sizes are limited, so enroll early. Junior size clubs and left-handed clubs are available for use, if needed.
Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Meet
This is a free event! The Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championship is a state-wide track meet divided by gender and ages 7-14 (age of December 31, 2024). State Meet will be held in Marshalltown Saturday, June 1st, 2024 .
