Marshalltown Fire Responds to 108 N 11th St

For Immediate Release: 02/28/21

On February 28, 2021, at 3:31 am, the Marshalltown Fire Department (MFD) responded with Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) and Unity Point EMS to 108 N. 11th Street on a reported house fire. The fire was called in by a motorist in the area. On arrival, size-up was completed and the fire was visible on the first floor and in the attic at the rear of the building. No one was living in the home at this time. Crews deployed two handlines and made an interior fire attack on the first floor. Crews were successful in extinguishing the main body of the fire, but the attic space was not accessible as the interior staircase had burned away. Crews placed ladders at the second-floor exterior windows and extinguished the fire in the attic from the outside. Fire crews remained on the scene for an hour and a half overhauling the building and extinguishing hot spots. No injuries were reported and at the time of this release and investigators were still on the scene.
