[ARCHIVED] Marshalltown Shooting Investigation – UPDATE - Victim Identified

On Monday, February 15, 2021, at approximately 3:07am, police officers responded to the Casey’s, located at 111 North 3rd Avenue, to investigate a shooting. Upon arrival, police officers located an adult male who was suffering from a gunshot wound. That person has died.

The victim is identified as Michael Ray West, age 48, of Marshalltown. Mr. West is an employee at the Casey’s on North 3rd Avenue and was working at the time of this incident.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting with this investigation. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Marshalltown Fire Department and Unity Point Ambulance Service all responded to the initial 911 calls for this incident.

This is an active investigation. A suspect has not been identified or located. Law enforcement encourages community members to be alert for suspicious activity and to report concerns immediately by calling 911. Anyone with information about this crime should call the Marshalltown Police Department at 641.754.5725.  Additionally, tips can be submitted by calling 641.753.1234, or via text messaging by texting the word “marshall” followed by the tip to CRIMES (274637), or online at www.marshallcountycs.com. All tips are completely anonymous and could earn a reward of up to $1,000 if the tip results in an arrest.
