Snow is in the forecast this coming week. If you live on a snow route, we encourage you to watch the weather forecast closely and to park off street when it is snowing.
The City will typically declare a winter storm emergency if two or more inches of snow is forecasted. Once a winter storm emergency has been declared, an on-street parking ban will be put into effect on designated snow routes. All vehicles must be removed from the street at that time. The parking ban will be posted on the City of Marshalltown website and Facebook pages for the city and police department.
Failure to remove a vehicle from the designated snow route may result in a $30.00 fine and subject the vehicle to tow, at the owner’s expense, resulting in increased cost. Maps of designated snow routes are available on the City of Marshalltown website, main page under the Community – Service for Residents tab at https://www.marshalltown-ia.gov/
. Snow routes are also clearly marked by red and white street signs.
We strongly encourage residents to educate themselves prior to a snow event as the Marshall County Communications Center and the police department’s Operations Division are extremely busy during winter storms. The police department would like to ensure that our residents are aware of the rules regarding emergency snow operations in the event of a winter storm. Keeping our roads clear is a citywide partnership. When vehicles are off our streets, city plows are more effective and efficient in removing snow from the roadway.
