[ARCHIVED] City Recieves $2.9 Million Grant from Economic Development Administration

Edgewood Groundbreaking

A groundbreaking was held today for the new Edgewood Extension project, and with it came news of $2.9 million from the US Economic Development Administration.  Joel Frushone, Director of the Office of External Affairs and Communications in the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, kicked off the groundbreaking by informing the City of Marshalltown the $2.9 million grant application had been approved.  Frushone also announced a grant for the City of Iowa Falls for water and wastewater improvements.

The Edgewood Extension project was a recommendation resulting from the Highway 14 Corridor Study, which was completed in 2018.  The City was able to partner with JBS to submit an application for 2018 disaster supplemental funding through the Economic Development Administration.  The new roadway will provide a truck diversion route for heavy traffic accessing the City’s industrial areas, while also creating another significant connecting roadway in the community to provide additional options in a disaster.  This project will also open up land for new heavy industrial users.  The project is also funded by a $1.6 million RISE grant from the Iowa DOT.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2021.
