[ARCHIVED] Marshalltown PD Investigates Weapons Offense


On May 3, 2020 at approximately 7:20 pm, officers responded to the 100 block East Lincoln Street on the report of an individual shooting a firearm in the neighborhood.  Witnesses stated the male suspect fired shots into the air and then returned to his residence.  When officers arrived, the male had exited his residence without the firearm.  The suspect, Matthew Daniel Puig-age 25, was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody for public intoxication. 

Officer’s executed a search warrant on Puig’s residence and discovered two firearms one of which had been reported stolen.  Puig was charged with the following offenses:

  • Public Intoxication
  • Reckless use of a firearm
  • Theft 4th degree
  • Carrying weapons
  • Dominion/Control of a firearm by a domestic abuse offender (two counts)
  • Child endangerment (two counts)

Puig was transported to the Marshall County Jail to await his initial appearance.  No injuries were reported to the police.  The investigation into this case continues and more charges are possible.

(A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.)
