[ARCHIVED] Family Donates to the Coliseum in Memory of Their Parents

Steve Storjohann and Deb Mettlin are both members of the Coliseum Fundraising Committee working hard to help meet the $1.35 million renovation goal.  They found a unique way to do so, along with their brother Dave:  contribute memorial funds from the recent passing of their parents, Alvin and Stella Storjohann, to the Coliseum.  "We lost them both this last Christmas and Easter.  So we decided being a strong patriotic family, donating Dad's memorial money, plus us three kids added funds to that amount, brought their donation to a Silver Star level," said Deb.  "We would like to encourage others to consider donating memorial money in the name of their family or parents.   It's such an honor to them."

Alvin and Stella Storjohann were both very involved in the community.  Alvin was a veteran of World War II, commander of the American Legion Post 46 for two terms, and a member of the VFW.  He also volunteered for numerous community projects.  Both Alvin and Stella had over 1,000 volunteer hours at the Iowa Veteran's Home.  Stella was also a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving in many capacities.

You can contribute to the renovation of the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and make your contribution in memory of a friend or loved one.  Contributions can be made online at or by mailing a check to 24 North Center Street, Marshalltown, Iowa, 50158.  All contributions are tax deductible.
