The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) has granted the City of Marshalltown $1 million through its Community Catalyst Building Remediation Program, which is targeted to the redevelopment and renovation of buildings located in the Marshalltown Central Business District. "On
behalf of the downtown business owners, their customers, and all of us who live
or work in Marshalltown, I thank the IEDA, IFA, Governor Reynolds and Debi
Durham for their concern and support," said Mayor Greer. "Our tornado recovery theme has been
“Marshalltown Strong.” With this generous grant and with the resilient
business owners and community, we will be “Marshalltown Stronger” after
rebuilding. We have been blessed by such great support from the state,
churches, non-profits, volunteers and donors."
In order to be eligible for the funding, the building/project must be located in the Marshalltown Central Business District, must be owned by the applicant or have an option or accepted purchase agreement before a final contract could be issued, and have consulted with the Marshalltown Central Business District and the historic architect provided through IEDA. Pre-applications for the grant funds must be at least $25,000. The pre-application can be accessed here.
Once a pre-application is returned, an evaluation team will review and ask additional questions and determine which projects should complete the lengthier full application. The process to turn in pre-applications is on-going, with the awarding of funds occurring on an on-going basis as well. "Applicants will be judged on their proposed project's ability to be a catalyst for economic development, enhance the appearance of the Marshalltown Central Business District, improve safety, and/or utilize property that is currently underutilized or vacant," stated Jessica Kinser, City Administrator.
