In the past 48 hours the Marshalltown Fire Department (MFD) has responded to three (3) structure fires, two (2) residential and one (1) commercial. On January 7, 2019 at 12:41 am, MFD personnel responded with Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) and Unity Point EMS to 1001 S. 7th Avenue on a reported house fire.Crews made entry into the home and found fire near the rear of the home in a laundry room and the fire was quickly extinguished. An overheated clothes dryer was the source of the fire. On January 8, 2019 at 5:16 am, MFD personnel responded with Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) and Unity Point EMS to 607 N. 4th Ave Avenue on a commercial fire. On arrival at a manufacturing plant, fire crews found the building charged with smoke and the sprinkler system flowing. The sprinkler system had contained the fire to the area of origin with some small spot fires that were extinguished by fire personnel. A broken hydraulic line on a piece of equipment was the cause of the fire. On January 8, 2019 at 8:54 pm, MFD responded with Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) and Unity Point EMS to 510 E. Church Street on a reported house fire. On arrival MFD personnel observed fire and smoke coming from the 2nd floor of the residence. Fire crews conducted searches on all levels of the home and found no one inside. The fire was found to be primarily on the second floor with some extension into the attic space. The fire was extinguished and crews removed ceiling and wall to look for additional fire extension. The cause of this fire is still under investigation. Fortunately, no one was injured in any of these incidents.
