MPD Patch

MPD was contacted by a concerned citizen today who received a suspicious phone call that threatened the concerned party with arrest. The caller purported to be an FBI agent and told the potential victim that they were in serious trouble and were subject to arrest. Thankfully the person who received this call did not fall for the scam. The number displayed on caller ID was 646.682.0951.

This is a common telephone scam that criminals use to trick you into sending them money or providing personal information about yourself. Don't be fooled. Instead hang up on these fools! NEVER give out personal information or financial information to anyone over the telephone, Internet, email, etc. unless you are 1000% certain you know who you are dealing with. Legitimate law enforcement agencies would never call you up and demand money. If you receive a call from someone purporting to be from law enforcement, it is okay to double check the authenticity of this call by hanging up and calling the local PD yourself to make sure you are talking to a legitimate person.

If you receive one of these calls, and are concerned you have been the victim of fraud or identity theft, please report these potential crimes by call 641.754.5725.
