[ARCHIVED] Statewide Speed Awareness Day

Push the Speed Limit Get Pulled Over Graphic

On July 26, 2023, the Marshalltown Police Department, in partnership with the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, will be participating in a multi-state traffic enforcement project as part of the the slow down/move over campaign.

Keeping the community and our police officers safe is a top priority. Tragically, Iowa experienced a dramatic 25% increase in speeding-related fatalities from 2020-2021. In 2021, speeding-related crashes killed 84 people on our roads, accounting for almost one-quarter of all crash fatalities.

All drivers are required to slow down and move around any parked or disabled vehicle with flashing lights. So far in 2023, 183 people have lost their lives on Iowa roadways as a result of motor vehicle crashes. This is a significant increase, (13% from the previous 5 year high and 21% increase from 5 year average), and an alarming trend. Officers will additionally be targeting intoxicated drivers, speeding, distracting driving, and seatbelt usage.

Help us keep Iowa roads safe! Move over and slow down!
