A few knuckleheads are calling Marshalltown residents and pretending to be law enforcement officers from Texas and law enforcement officers from the Marshalltown PD. The scammers tell their potential victims that there is a warrant for their arrest but for a fee they can pay a fine and have the warrant canceled. The scammers then request bank account or credit card information.

These criminals are also spoofing phone numbers to make it look like these are local calls. One victim reported her caller ID showed a Marshalltown PD number.

This is a common scam. DO NOT give out bank account or credit card information to anyone over the phone unless you are 1000% sure you know who you are talking to. Real law enforcement officers will never call you and ask you to send them money or ask you for personal banking information over the phone.
