On Monday January 3, 2022, at 2:36pm, Marshalltown Police Department officers responded to a report of a two vehicle crash at South Center Street (Highway 14) and Southridge Road. Initial reports indicated this was a crash with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located the two vehicles, a 2003 Silver Hyundai and a 2002 Black GMC Envoy, that were in the northbound lanes of Highway 14 and the northeast terrace of E Southridge Road. First responders discovered that three people suffered from varied injuries as a result of this crash and were transported to the Unity Point Hospital - Emergency Department in Marshalltown. At least one of these individuals was suffering from significant life threatening injuries. Identities of drivers and passengers are not being released at this time as the crash remains under investigation. A traffic accident reconstructionist with the Iowa State Patrol processed the scene of the crash. The entire area was blocked off for about three hours with barricades to facilitate the crash investigation.
The Marshalltown Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Marshalltown Fire Department, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Unity Point EMS, Marshalltown Street Department, and the Iowa State Patrol.
The Marshalltown Police Department encourages all drivers to be cognizant of the roadway when traveling and be aware of emergency situations that may develop on these roadways that require the deployment of emergency services.
