On October 27, 2021, at approximately 1:00pm the Marshalltown Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a semi and a minivan on 18th Avenue near Elder Drive in Marshalltown. Officers arrived on scene and found a semi jack knifed in the roadway and the minivan had extensive front end damage. Initial investigation indicated the minivan was traveling northbound on 18th Avenue when it crossed the center line and came in contact with the semi. The driver of the minivan was transported by ambulance to Unity Point Hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the semi was not injured in the collision. There was some diesel fuel spilled during this incident from the semi.
The Marshalltown Police Department was assisted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Department of Commercial Motor Vehicles, the Department of Transportation, the Marshalltown Fire Department, and the Marshalltown Street and Water Departments. 18th Ave was closed for approximately three hours during this incident.
