Stimulus Payment Scams

Marshalltown Police Badge

Scammers always be scamming. They are now running scams to steal your stimulus payments from you. Scammers are sending text messages, emails, or making calls to you pretending to be government employees and attempting to steal your personal information or talk you into sending them money.
The FTC advises: "The IRS won't contact you by phone, email, text message, or social media with information about your stimulus payment, or to ask you for your Social Security number, bank account, or government benefits debit card account number. Anyone who does is a scammer phishing for your information.
As always use caution when communicating with anyone online or on the phone. If it sounds to good to be is. If it sounds is. Call your local law enforcement if you have questions or concerns about these fraud schemes.
