[ARCHIVED] Fireworks Information

In 2018, the State of Iowa legalized the sale of consumer fireworks and banned municipalities from prohibiting the sale. The law did allow cities to ban their use and in 2018 the Marshalltown City Council, like many other communities in the State, passed an ordinance (130.018) banning their use. If ticketed for the use of fireworks a fine of up to $750 may be assessed. Using fireworks comes with associated personal injury risks including burns and loss of fingers and eyes. Additionally, there is the risk of fire. For example when shooting fireworks that leave the ground the shooter has no control over where the spent fireworks casing lands. Just because they explode does not mean they are done burning and they could land on a roof or in shrubs and bushes and start a fire. So please leave the shooting of fireworks to the professionals. Come out to the Marshall County Fairgrounds on July 4th and watch what will be the largest fireworks display in many years.
