Marshalltown PD - Burglary Arrest Announcement

On March 11, 2021 at about 3:15 am, a Marshalltown Police Officer was checking businesses on E. Southridge when he interrupted a burglary in progress. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was captured and taken into custody.  

Upon investigation, three businesses in the 100-200 blk of E. Southridge had been broken into by the suspect.   

Officers arrested:

Jimmy Allen Austgen (age 52). Austgen reports a Des Moines address as his place of residence.


  • Burglary 3rd degree (3 counts) Class D felony
  • Criminal Mischief (3 counts)
  • Possession of Burglary Tools (1 count) Aggravated misdemeanor
  • Interference with Official Acts (1 count) Simple misdemeanor

Austgen was transported to the Marshall County Jail to await his initial appearance on the above charges. Austgen has a criminal history with convictions for similar crimes and is currently out on parole.

(A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.)
