On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 9:37pm, emergency personnel responded to 104 East North Street after receiving a 911 call regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, police officers located an 18-year-old, male who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was subsequently transported to Unity Point Hospital in Marshalltown for what is believed to be a non-life threatening injury.
Officers investigating the shooting subsequently identified and spoke with multiple people who were generally uncooperative with the police investigation. It is believed these individuals have important information about this crime but they blatantly refused to cooperate with law enforcement.
Chief Michael Tupper stated, “Evidence indicates this was not a random act of violence but rather a targeted incident. It is likely everyone involved is well acquainted with each other and we are not receiving much in the form of helpful cooperation. The police investigation will continue until we identify who the shooter was and bring that person to justice. It is disturbing to us that some of the involved parties are juveniles. We are concerned that young people have been drawn into such a violent act that could have had tragic consequences. We encourage parents to talk to their sons and daughters and discuss with them the dangers of gun violence and the importance of steering clear of such dangerous people and activities.”
The Marshalltown Police Department was assisted at this emergency scene by Marshall County 911 Communications Center, Marshalltown Fire Department, Unity Point Marshalltown Ambulance Service, and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.
