On Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 9:07am, Marshalltown police officers responded to the 600 block of West Boone Street after a 911 hang-up call was received from a private residence in this neighborhood. After an investigation of circumstances, officers discovered that a twenty-two-year-old Marshalltown woman had been assaulted. The Marshalltown police department subsequently arrested Jerome Marquez Lang, age 21, of Marshalltown. Mr. Lang was charged with:
- Burglary in the First Degree (2 counts)
- Child Endangerment (2 counts)
- Violation of a No Contact Order (3 counts)
- Domestic Abuse Assault – Causing Bodily Injury
- Domestic Abuse Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
- Domestic Abuse Assault – Strangulation with Bodily Injury
- False Imprisonment (2 counts)
- Harassment in the First Degree
- Interference with Official Acts
- Obstructing a 911 Call
- Stalking (2 counts)
- Outstanding Arrest Warrant – Violation of a No Contact Order

Mr. Lang was transported to the Marshall Count Jail and was held pending an initial court appearance. On April 8, 2023, Mr. Lang was arrested for Burglary in the Second Degree and Domestic Abuse Assault involving the same victim. These investigations continue.
