On November 7, 2022, the Marshalltown Police Department received information concerning a threat involving a firearm. A police investigation subsequently revealed a Marshalltown man threatened two juveniles ages 17 and 14 on November 7 and displayed a firearm during this incident.
On November 15, 2022, police officers served a search warrant at 212 North 5th Street in Marshalltown. Officers discovered evidence at this location which was pertinent to the November 7 incident. As a result of this on-going investigation, the Marshalltown Police Department has arrested Jose Luis Galaviz, age 19, of Marshalltown. Mr. Galaviz has been charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon – 2 Counts
- Carrying a Weapon on School Grounds
- Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Deliver
- Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Mr. Galaviz was arrested on November 15 and was booked into the Marshall County Jail.
